About the Job:
Key to each of our facilities is the team behind the scenes, working to maintain and to keep each of our locations as beautiful and operable with each passing day, as the day it opened. The Facilities Custodian and Housekeeping Staff is primarily responsible for both the nitty gritty behind-the-scenes upkeep and for longer term preventive maintenance (PM) management. The Facilities Custodian and Housekeeping Staff will partner with each of the department heads operating out of our West Sacramento production facility to ensure all incremental cleaning and maintenance is completed and that our PM and emergency response (ER) vendors are fully invested in their support of Blue Bottle. The Facilities Custodian and Housekeeping Staff will report directly to the Director of Production and partner with the Facilities Manager.
Job Summary: The Facilities Custodian and Housekeeping Staff is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the facility. This role encompasses a variety of cleaning, maintenance, and custodial tasks to ensure compliance with hygiene and safety standards. The Facilities Custodian and Housekeeping Staff contributes to a positive atmosphere for employees, visitors, and clients.
This position works in our West Sacramento Production Facility and would be expected to work from 5:30 AM to 1:30 PM. M - F.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of daily, weekly and monthly cleaning schedules.
  • Upkeep of facilities including paint touch-ups, bulb changes, glass cleaning and general maintenance of common areas.
  • Assisting Blue Bottle’s teams with necessary support, troubleshooting and engaged management of ER and repair.
  • Signing off on work performed by vendors including pest control, waste management, PM and ER repair.
  • Actively communicating updates to cleaning schedules and PM cycles to teammates.
  • Sweeping and mopping floors of common areas.
  • Clean, stock, and maintain common areas: break room, office areas, meeting rooms, restrooms, showers.
  • Maintain and clean garbage in common areas, office areas, and restrooms.
  • Ensuring trash/compost/recycling is being sorted properly.
  • Maintain and clean garbage, recycling, and composting in production areas when needed. Keep janitorial supplies and closet stocked, organized, and clean.
  • Maintain and clean sidewalks and exterior of building.
  • Collaborating with all other members of the company professionally, respectfully and with integrity.
  • Partnering with our Food Safety Team to ensure that the facility follows all food safety policies and protocols

Qualifications

  • Have a love and/or respect of delicious coffee.
  • Demonstrate exemplary communication skills at all times.
  • Two or more years prior experience in a similar role, ideally in the food industry or a clean manufacturing environment
  • Are comfortable on a computer.
  • Are a self motivated individual.
  • Are able to build long lasting, professional, healthy relationships.
  • Enjoy working in a high volume sales setting and can work effectively and efficiently at all times.
  • Willingness to work holidays and weekends when needed.
  • Have a high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) desirable.
  • Familiar with commercial equipment and operations.
  • Have basic math and computer skills.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Excellent communication.

You will:

  • Cleaning and Maintenance:
  • Perform daily cleaning tasks, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces.
  • Clean and maintain restrooms, break rooms, and common areas, ensuring they meet hygiene standards.
  • Handle waste disposal and recycling in accordance with facility policies.
  • Custodial Duties:
  • Conduct routine inspections of the facility to identify cleaning and maintenance needs.
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including trash pickup, snow removal, and landscaping as necessary.
  • Assist with minor repairs, such as changing light bulbs and fixing furniture.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization.
  • Supplies Management:
  • Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Report any maintenance or safety issues to the Facilities Manager.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures while performing custodial tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Assistance and Support:
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of facilities for events, meetings, and special projects.
  • Respond to custodial requests from staff and management promptly.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Work collaboratively with other housekeeping and facilities staff to ensure efficient operations.
  • Participate in team meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Be a leader in, and continuously improve the culture of excellence and hospitality at our facility.
  • Record Keeping:
  • Maintain logs of cleaning activities, supply inventory, and equipment maintenance.
  • Report any significant issues or recommendations for improvements to the Facilities Manager.

Physical requirements

  • This role is a physical one and the physical demands outlined below are representative of those that must be met for a team member to be successful in the role.   • You have:
  • The ability to stand, walk, sit for long periods of time (at least 8 hours per day and 5 days per week)
  • The use of hands to handle or feel and the ability to reach with hands and arm
  • The ability to stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • The ability to squat, bend, twist and reach for items below waist level or above shoulders
  • The ability to lift, push/pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • The ability to listen and speak
  • The ability to climb ladders, stairs, ramps and uneven floor and/or surfaces as needed
  • The ability to have close visual acuity to perform repetitive visual checking, counting, spotting small defects, determine accuracy of numbers and package
  • The ability to smell and taste

Preferred:

  • Experience in a commercial or industrial setting.
  • Certification in cleaning or facility management is a plus.
  • Have a high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) desirable.
