Job bio

We are seeking a passionate Project Manager to lead the Roots Development Team in the creation and execution of new patches and site infrastructure across the country. As a Project Manager, you will oversee aspects of the creation of each new Roots Allotment site across the UK, contributing to our mission of fostering sustainable agriculture and community wellbeing.

This role requires a large amount of traveling and the applicant must be willing to do a lot of driving and staying away from home for several days at a time.

About You

  • 1+ years of Project Management and/or Day Laboring on construction/building sites and a hunger to learn
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Adaptable to changing workloads during the seasons (most building occurs in the summer months)

Key Responsibilities

  • Finding local compost suppliers
  • Finding local compost haulage providers
  • Finding local agricultural contactor with telehandler to build patches
  • Finding and managing local patch builders
  • Marking out patches for building
  • Organising compost deliveries and shifts for patch building based on sales to ensure demand is kept up with
  • Supervise and coordinate labor teams across the UK for the construction of each community allotment
  • Support the Site Building Project Manager with their role to ensure all jobs are completed before a site is opened - particularly the car park
  • Assist in budget planning and maintenance for the operations department
  • Create visual and audio content to document site construction progress
  • Conduct weekly operations meetings and maintain site status sheets for project updates
  • Collaborate with the team to manage and drive internal projects by maintaining project timelines
  • Manage all aspects of project construction, ensuring site readiness and compliance with project requirements
  • Establish and maintain relationships with local suppliers and contractors for each site

Working hours

  • Flexible working hours, with a minimum commitment of 46 hours per week
  • Workload may vary seasonally, with summers being more intense
  • Weekend work is required during build phases but TOIL or overtime pay is given
